About the event

With Jessica Drench, chef/baker of Melrose-based Mama Jean, and hosted and supported by The Kitchen cooking school in Melrose, this class/community service opportunity is aimed at making about 75-100 meals for the Melrose Community Freezer and Seniors facing food insecurity..  Light apps and beverages will be offered for the class. Cost to attend is $100. If you are unable to make it but would like to contribute towards food costs, please consider a contribution for $50+. You can specify in checkout if you are attending or contributing.Â
We’ll be preparing the fan favorite Sardinian Three-Bean and Vegetable Minestrone Soup recipe from our Blue Zones Meal Prep Clubs as well as Irish Colcannon (a traditional comfort food dish made with mashed potatoes, cabbage, and green herbs) with Roasted Sausages - just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
The Melrose Community Freezers, a joint program of The Food Drive and First United Methodist Church of Melrose (FUMC), is a weekly offering of free nutritious, balanced frozen meals, in which guests select from a wide range of options prepared and donated by community cooks. Since its launch in 2022, the Melrose Community Freezer program has provided over 2500 meals to anyone seeking assistance. To learn more, please visit www.thefooddrive.org
